App Enables Protection of Images Online – Coming Soon from Sasha
Every day, billions of images are shared online—but what happens when they end up in the wrong hands? Danish tech startup Sasha is developing a groundbreaking app that will give users control over their digital images, with early access coming soon. Announced ahead of Safer Internet Day 2025, this technology aims to set new standards for online image security.
Fighting Image Abuse Online
An estimated 14 billion images are shared on social media daily (Matic Broz, Photutorial, 2024), increasing the risk of misuse. Sasha’s upcoming app tackles this issue by embedding an invisible, AI-powered digital signature into images, allowing users to track and control their content.
“We believe that everyone has the right to share images without fear of misuse. With growing concerns about online privacy and image abuse, we have created a much-needed solution. Our first step is launching an app for individuals,” says founder Thomas Eriksson, whose personal journey began when he tried to remove an image from the internet. With Sasha’s technology and the upcoming app, the Danish tech startup is taking a crucial step toward making this vision a reality.
Thomas Eriksson, who has founded the company and applied for multiple patents for the technology since 2023, explains:
“Online image abuse is an epidemic. Every day, billions of images are shared on social media and messaging platforms, and far too often, these images end up in the wrong hands. The consequences can be devastating—ranging from humiliation and harassment to identity theft and even extortion. On Safer Internet Day 2025, Sasha is taking a decisive step in the fight for a safer internet. We want to restore trust and confidence so that people can share images without fear. Soon, we will unveil a groundbreaking app that will provide users with unprecedented control over their digital images. Ensuring online safety will have a ripple effect, improving many other aspects of life and society.”
Security and Control
When an image is shared using Sasha’s technology, an invisible signature is embedded within it—one that is extremely difficult to remove and robust towards manipulation. If the image appears somewhere it wasn’t intended to be, such as an unauthorized website, this signature allows the owner to identify who shared it. In other words, users can see exactly who initially redistributed or leaked their content. All of this takes place securely on the user’s phone, ensuring that only the image owner can access the shared content and track its distribution.
